Ian Webster, President/owner of IMOS Systems Computer Repair, is the kind of tech who understands that while most people know how to use their gadgets, they aren't so knowledgeable when electronics stop functioning properly or stop working altogether.
Most of us, at one point or another, will experience some kind of glitch with our electronic devices. From hard drive crashes and viruses to shattered screens, sticking keyboards or faulty operating systems, if you use a computer, potential problems are just part of the equation.
And while any issue that stops our productivity can be extremely frustrating, Webster knows how to keep the stress of electronic mishaps from getting too overwhelming.
Webster operates his business out of an impressive office inside the Burbank Place building on Jacqueline Road, home to America's Media Marketing. IMOS Services encompasses a well-kept, comfortable office/workshop with two workbenches, a desk and everything Webster needs to diagnose and repair most electronics, no matter the issue or damage.
Many common repairs, Webster said, relate to cracked or damaged screens on laptops and mobile devices. "Kids and technology don't mix," he added, with a chuckle.
Other common issues include virus infections. "We offer an 18-point complete computer tune-up for $65," Webster said, which includes a clean-out of the entire system. "It also includes the actual removal of the viruses and the malware, depending on how serious it is."
IMOS Services is molded to address most technical issues, molding its services to meet the demands of its customers. The mobile unit services Hernando, Pasco, Citrus and Sumter Counties.
"This is my first actual location," he said. "I was strictly mobile for almost twelve years."
Ian Webster has a very approachable demeanor. He does not come off intimidating or arrogant when discussing computer issues, a topic the majority of his customers have only a limited knowledge of.
But make no mistake. Webster knows his industry. And his company is backed by a solid foundation of experience and skill. "Integrity is very important to me," he said.
Ian Webster began his career in the technology field after graduating from Full Sail University in Winter Park with a degree in multimedia and computer sciences.
"Shortly after graduating, I landed a job with Interactive Marketing Services out of Chicago where we contracted with the major cable companies, converting the world from analog to digital services."
As a "stand out" with the company, Webster was transferred to Boston, Massachusetts, all expenses paid. "We contracted with MediaOne, which is now AT&T," he said. Once his contracts were completed, he returned to Florida.
His impressive resume only grew, adding Kinkos Inc. to his list as a lead production coordinator and then a commercial business representative out of North Palm Beach Island and Symbol Technology, an Office Depot Corporate Headquarters, in Delray Beach, as a bench tech.
The devastating impact of September 11th on the business economy left him weary of working for someone else. So he decided to pursue his own business, IMOS Systems, which he founded in 2001.
"I started saving money and running ads," he said. "When I started getting calls I jumped into it."
He did mobile service calls mainly for the business sector, working with local small businesses and large corporations. And he built a very strong reputation for solid work ethic, dependability and knowledge of his industry.
IMOS Systems does mobile on-site service, in-shop service, remote service and has just started a mail-in program. Customers can even drop off their electronics to his shop. "They just need to go to my website and print out the form," he said.
IMOS Systems repairs all major brands of computers, including Macs and PCs. Webster also sets up and installs new systems, builds custom systems including workstations and gaming computers, offers one on one personal computer tutoring, does network and wireless networking Installations, installs network security cameras and more.
The website is user-friendly and packed with additional information that is updated regularly. You can find a complete list of services on the site.
IMOS Systems recently added repairs for iPhones and iPads. "There is no other company around here that fixes them," he said. "You would have to drive to Tampa."
In fact, Lee Beers of Van-Ess Manufacturing in Spring Hill recently had an iPhone screen repaired with IMOS Systems. "I've dealt with a lot of computer repair companies," Beers said. "I could tell he knew what he was doing."
Beers had compared IMOS's pricing to competitors in Tampa and had determined IMOS was more than $50 cheaper. "And he got the job done," Beers added.
While Webster's expertise derives from a passion for technology, he wears his heart on his sleeve.
"Every job is different," he said. "The best part of what I do is making people happy with their technology. I help them become less afraid of breaking it."
